After 30 years of normalization, the Viet Nam-U.S. relationship has made remarkable progress, surpassing even the most optimistic expectations.
The two nations adopted a joint statement on elevating the Viet Nam-U.S. relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development on the occasion of former President Joseph Biden's official visit to Viet Nam in November 2023.
Viet Nam has become the eight largest trade partner of the U.S. in ASEAN. Meanwhile, the U.S. is Viet Nam's second biggest trade partner and largest importer.
Two-way trade turnover reached over US$$132 billion in 2024, of which Viet Nam's export revenue was estimated at nearly US$119 billion, up 23.3 percent compared to the previous year.
By the end of April 2024, American businesses had invested over US$12 billion in Viet Nam, spanning more than 1,300 projects, positioning the U.S. as the 11th largest investor in Viet Nam by investment value./.
