The Spokesperson made the above statement at a regular press briefing on August 22 in response to an inquiry on the control of the disease in Viet Nam.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared mpox as a global public health emergency due to its rapid spread in several African countries.

On August 19, the Ministry of Health requested provincial and municipal People's Committees, Hygiene and Epidemiology Institutes, Pasteur Institutes and hospitals specializing in infectious diseases, to ramp up efforts to prevent and control the spread of mpox.

They were urged to strictly follow to the instructions in the Prime Minister's dispatch dated August 1, 2022 on strengthening the prevention and control of the disease.

The ministry also provided instructions on the diagnosis and treatment of mpox, as well as measures to prevent its transmission in healthcare establishments.

Viet Nam has strengthened the monitoring and detection of suspected cases at border checkpoints and within public and private healthcare establishments.

Health authorities and relevant agencies are working closely with localities to enhance public communications on preventive measures, oversee and direct anti-epidemic efforts, while reviewing and updating contingency plans to ensure readiness in response to potential outbreaks.

In the coming time, health agencies and disease control bodies will continue to assess and closely monitor the situation to promptly implement necessary measures to protect public safety.

Any suspected or confirmed mpox cases must be reported immediately through the website https://macabenh.vncdc.gov.vn/?mod=monkey or via the hotline at 0387525938./.
