The 38-year-old woman from Tuyen Quang province, who traveled to Dubai from September 29 to October 18, has had symptoms like fever, nauseous and blisters since October 11.

She stayed in the same accommodation in Dubai with the first monkeypox patient in Viet Nam, who alerted the HCMC Center for Disease Control about her mate’s suspected symptoms and sought advice.

As such, when landed in Tan Son Nhat Airport, the suspected woman was put in quarantine straightaway.

She was then taken to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in HCMC to get tested and  receive treatment after the test turned out positive to monkeypox, leading no threat of community transmission.

Following the detection of the first case of monkeypox on October 3, the Ministry of Health guided cities and provinces to employ on a range of preventive measures against monkeypox.

Specifically, localities have been requested to intensify monitoring of possible transmissions at border gates and health clinics, hold training sessions for health staff, and ensure infection prevention and control at testing and medical facilities.

Local authorities also need to step up dissemination of preventive measures to raise public awareness.

When a positive case of monkeypox is detected, the locality involved is required to conduct contact tracing and quarantine to prevent the disease from spreading in the community./.
