The number of green buildings in the country has increased in recent years. However, the model remains to be slowly spread in the country.
HCMC leads the nation in terms of the number of green buildings, with 67 projects, and ranks second in terms of certified green buildings covering 1.3 million square meters.
Maria Joao Pateguana, a senior investment specialist at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), said that investors still have reservations due to the relatively high costs of green buildings and a lack of full understanding of their benefits. Additionally, Viet Nam faces a shortage of green financing providers, and enterprises struggle to secure funding.
She said ADB will offer support and capacity-building initiatives for experts, markets, and enterprises to improve access to green financing.
Green project development is one of important solutions for the construction sector to go green. The sector consumes around 37-40 percent of total energy consumption and discharges over 30 percent of gas emission in Viet Nam.
The Viet Nam Green Building Week 2022, the annual event held by the Ministry of Construction in response to the World Green Building Week, will take place from October 13-14 in HCMC, with the participation of leading construction experts. This year, the week aims to realize Viet Nam’s commitments announced at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26).
The event is expected to contribute to enhancing the awareness of stakeholders in promoting green and energy-efficient buildings./.
