Viet Nam-funded secondary school inaugurated in Laos' Houaphanh province
VGP - A secondary school funded by the Vietnamese Government was inaugurated in Houameuang district in the northern Lao province of Houaphanh on June 3.
The project, jointly built by the authorities of Viet Nam's Hoa Binh province and Houaphanh, cost VND156.23 billion (US$6.15 million), of which Viet Nam's funding amounted to VND126.6 billion (around US$5 million).
Addressing the event, Standing Vice Chairman of the Laos-Viet Nam Cooperation Committee Viengsavanh Vilayphone expressed thanks to Viet Nam's Party, State and people for their assistance for disadvantaged areas in Laos via the construction of infrastructure serving for education and human resource development.
Cooperation in education is one of the symbols of the special relationship between the two nations, Viengsavanh Vilayphone noted.
During the 46th meeting of the Viet Nam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee for Bilateral Cooperation that was held in Ha Noi on January 7, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Lao counterpart Sonexay Siphandone agreed that Viet Nam and Laos would continue to prioritise and increase the quality of education-training and human resources development collaboration.
Viet Nam agreed to offer 1,120 scholarships to Lao officials and students to study in Viet Nam, and send teachers to Laos for the teaching of the Vietnamese language.
In recent years, Viet Nam has not only helped Laos to develop education but also established schools in Viet Nam to receive Lao students.
Over the past six decades, Viet Nam has helped Laos train tens of thousands of officials in all fields from politics, administration, security and defense to research.
In return, the Lao government assisted Viet Nam in training a total of 4,850 officials and students in the 1982-2022 period./.
