Viet Nam deploys additional eight officers to UN peacekeeping missions
VGP - Viet Nam has decided to deploy additional eight military officers to the UN peacekeeping missions.
Accordingly, six of them will serve in UN peacekeeping missions in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) while the other two will be deployed to South Sudan (UNMISS).
Addressing a ceremony to hand over deployment decisions to the personnel in Ha Noi on Thursday, Deputy Minister of National Defense Hoang Xuan Chien encouraged the officers to undertake their duties with professionalism, self-reliance and a collaborative spirit, while maintaining personal safety in regions with complex security situations.
This round of deployment features Viet Nam's growing focus on increasing female participation in peacekeeping missions in accordance with the UN Security Council's gender balance strategy, he noted.
Since its initial participation in UN peacekeeping, Viet Nam has sent nearly 1,100 personnel to missions in Africa and at the UN headquarters.
The Viet Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations is actively preparing the fourth Engineering Unit and the seventh Level-2 Field Hospital for deployment in 2025./.
