Viet Nam, Denmark mark 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties
VGP - Danish Crown Prince Frederik and Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan on Sunday attended a ceremony to mark the 50th founding anniversary of the of the diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Denmark.
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan said that over the past half a century of development, bilateral ties have changed from a traditional development cooperation relationship to an equal and mutually beneficial partnership, and with the establishment of their comprehensive partnership, Viet Nam and Denmark have really become reliable, dynamic and effective partners.
The Vice President expressed her belief Viet Nam and Denmark will continue to strengthen cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally to jointly address challenges for a peaceful, stable, just and sustainable world and to meet the aspirations and interests of the two peoples as well as the international community.
"We do believe the Comprehensive Partnership between Viet Nam and Denmark will become more and more effective and sustainable", stressed the Vietnamese leader.
Danish Crown Prince Frederik expressed his delight at the growing relations between Denmark and Viet Nam in various fields over the past half century.
He said a large delegation of Danish businesses accompanying him during the Viet Nam visit would discuss with their Vietnamese partners solutions to support the country’s sustainable development, giving fresh impetus to investment cooperation between the two countries’ business communities.
The Crown Prince shared the goals of carbon emissions reduction and energy transition, and expressed his belief Denmark will accompany Viet Nam towards sustainable green growth goals.
Denmark was among the very first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with Viet Nam in 1971.
Denmark began providing humanitarian assistance and preferential loans to Viet Nam to support its post-war reconstruction. Danish development aid to Viet Nam particularly accelerated from 1993 when Viet Nam was selected as a priority country for Danish development cooperation.
In 2013, Denmark was the first Nordic country to sign a Comprehensive Partnership Agreement with Viet Nam.
The bilateral relations have recorded many achievements in all traditional fields such as politics - diplomacy, economy - trade - investment, people-to-people exchange, and agriculture education and labor cooperation, and new spheres such as climate change adaptation, renewable energy, green growth, and sustainable development.
Specifically, two-way trade reached US$842.37 million in 2021, up 18 percent year on year, and $554.17 million in the first nine months of 2022, with Viet Nam’s exports rising 51.8 percent.
So far this year, Denmark has been the third biggest investor of Viet Nam with capital amounting to $1.32 billion.
The European country considers Viet Nam a model for green transition and pledges to accompany and support Viet Nam in realizing green and sustainable development goals./.
