Viet Nam demands China end illegal survey operation in Vietnamese waters
VGP - Viet Nam is deeply concerned about, resolutely opposes and demands that China end the illegal survey operations conducted by vessel Hai Yang 26 in Viet Nam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf as defined in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
The Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Pham Thu Hang made the above statement on Thursday in response to reporters' questions regarding the illegal survey conducted by the vessel of the Chinese Navy in Vietnamese waters.
Viet Nam has repeatedly communicated with China on this case, she said, adding that Viet Nam requests China not to repeat similar illegal activities.
She called on China to fully respect Viet Nam's sovereign rights and jurisdiction, respect international law, adhere to UNCLOS 1982 and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
Pham urged China to seriously implement high-level perceptions reached by the two countries' senior leaders regarding the management and resolution of disputes at sea to maintain the development momentum of bilateral relations and positively contribute to peace and stability in the East Sea./.
