Viet Nam, Czech Republic elevate ties to strategic partnership
VGP – Viet Nam and the Czech Republic have upgraded their relations to a strategic partnership, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala told reporters in Prague on Monday.
The latest decision was made during the summit meeting between Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
"No country in Asia with which we have such a profound and open relationship as Viet Nam and this is the right time to decide to turn the relationship to a new page," Prime Minister Fiala said at a press briefing following the summit meeting.
The relationship has been very successful, with the two-way trade increasing rapidly, emphasized Fiala, adding that Czech companies are interested in investing in Viet Nam.
Fiala affirmed that Viet Nam represents the most important partner of the Czech Republic in Southeast Asia, with huge cooperation potential.
Prime Minister Pham, for his part, thanked the Czech side for its warm hospitality during his visit, saying he had a fruitful meeting with his Czech counterpart.
Pham expressed his gratitude to the Czech Republic for its wholehearted and pure assistance for Viet Nam over the last 75 years.
The new partnership framework established today means the Czech Republic is the first strategic partner of Viet Nam in Central and Eastern Europe, noted the Vietnamese Prime Minister
He suggested both sides strive to raise the two-way trade to US$5 billion, consolidate and strengthen defense-security cooperation, and facilitate cultural and people-to-people exchanges
Pham called on both countries to continue close coordination at international and multilateral forums in a bid to contribute to further elevating each side's role, position and prestige on the international arena.
Pham took the occasion to invite Prime Minister Petr Fiala to visit Viet Nam again and conveyed the greetings and invitations from General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man to senior Czech leaders to visit the Southeast Asian country.
On the occasion, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing of agreements on cooperation in the fields of education and training and pilot training between the two countries./.
