Viet Nam, China open dedicated cargo transport routes to boost trade
VGP - A ceremony was held in the northern province of Lang Son on May 27 to mark the launch of three routes dedicated for freight transport and customs clearance at the international border gate pair of Huu Nghi (Viet Nam)–Youyi Guan (China).
They include a specialized freight transport route through the area of border markers No.1088/2–1089, the Tan Thanh (Viet Nam)–Puzhai (China) entrance at the 109–1091 border marker area, and the Coc Nam (Viet Nam)–Nongyao (China) entrance at the 1104–1105 border marker area.
The new routes are expected to facilitate tourism and trade development, improve customs clearance capacity at the Huu Nghi–Youyi Guan border gate pair, and meet the growing trade needs between the two countries.
Total import-export turnover of goods through Lang Son Province reached over US$22 billion after the first four and a half months of the year, up 29 per cent over the same period in 2023.
Tan Thanh and Huu Nghi are the two most active border gates, with customs working to clear imports and exports including agricultural products, fresh fruit, cars, electronic components and household goods daily.
In the farming season, the Tan Thanh department carries out customs clearance procedures for around 200 vehicles per day on average, although it can clear up to nearly 300 vehicles at the peak. Around 8,000 to 10,000 tons of fresh fruit are exported per day, an increase of more than 50 per cent compared to the end of 2023.
During January-April, China remained Viet Nam's top source of imports worth US$41.6 billion, up 28.4 percent year-on-year and the second largest export market with exports reaching US$18 billion, up 14.4 percent year-on-year.
Viet Nam's trade deficit with China reached US$23.6 billion in the first four months of 2024, up 41.4 percent from the previous year./.
