Viet Nam becomes IRENA member

VGP - The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) announced that Viet Nam became an official member of the agency from November 7, 2025.

The announcement was made during the working session between Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long and representatives of the IRENA in Ha Noi on December 15.

IRENA, established in 2009, comprises of 170 members and the European Union. It plays a central role in supporting countries in developing policies and strategies, accessing technology, data and analysis, and promoting cooperation and investment in renewable energy.

At the working session, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade emphasized that Viet Nam's official accession to IRENA marks an important step forward in international integration of energy sector.

It creates favorable conditions for Viet Nam to strengthen policy exchanges and gain access to databases, analytical tools and technical support to serve energy planning, development of renewable energy, and energy transition in line with approved orientations, he added.

Representatives of the IRENA affirmed that the agency highly appreciates Viet Nam's energy development policies, including those on renewable energy.

Within the IRENA framework, Viet Nam will have greater opportunities to connect with international financial institutions, development partners and investors, thereby promoting the mobilization of investment resources for renewable and new energy projects such as offshore wind power, solar power, green hydrogen and energy storage solutions./.
