Viet Nam among most attractive destinations for Thai tourists
VGP - Viet Nam is expected to become one of the top destinations for Thai tourists during the upcoming New Year besides Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and Laos, according to Authority of Thailand (TAT) Director General Yuthasak Supasorn.
The number of Thais booking overseas vacations is on the rise as many popular destinations have reopened without restrictions, while a weaker currency against the Baht is also supporting the outbound tourism market.
The majority of Thais affording to travel abroad are typically middle- to high-income earners who have been unable to travel abroad over recent times due to the prolonged impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yuthasak noted that the foreign tourism market in December, especially during the New Year holiday, has reached the highest level over the past three years. This could therefore affect domestic tourism to some extent, particularly as people redirect their spending to overseas destinations, he explained.
Citing data compiled by booking.com, an online travel agency, Yuthasak stated that Thai tourists booked more hotels to Asian destinations this month.
International searches for tourism in Viet Nam remain high, according to the Viet Nam National Tourism Administration (VNAT) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Last Wednesday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked ministries, agencies, localities, and businesses to consider diversifying tourism products, markets, and supply chains when seeking ways to attract foreign tourists.
He urged ministries, agencies, localities, businesses, and experts to propose ideas to remove obstacles and work out solutions to create breakthroughs for tourism next year./.
