With this system, local administrations are devided into two levels, provincial and communal administrations.

On June 30, all 34 cities and provinces nationwide will announce new leadership teams and administrative boundaries, Nguyen said.

Over the past few months, Viet Nam has carried out a revolution to streamline the political system from central to local levels.

At central level, four Party organs and agencies, five committees of the National Assembly, five ministries and three Governmental bodies have been dissolved or merged with others.

At local level, the number of provinces and cities will be reduced to 34 from current 63 while district-level administrations will be dissolved. The number of communes will be reduced to 3,320 from current 10,035 through merger.

With this historic political system overhaul, at least 230,000 cadres and employees have to get early retirement or move from the public sector to other sectors.

The revolution is expected to help the public sector perform more effectively and efficienty and save budget for investment development.

The revolution, initiated by General Secretary To Lam, is expected to help Viet Nam achieve the goal of becoming a high-income, developed country by 2045./.
