Under Decision 974/QD-TTg, dated August 19, 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai was appointed Chairman of the Coordinating Council for the Mekong Delta Region comprising 12 provinces namely Long An, Dong Thap, Tien Giang, An Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau, and Can Tho City.

Under Decision 975/QD-TTg, dated August 19, 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang headed the Coordinating Council for the Northern Mountainous and Midland Region.

The Northern midland and mountainous region consists of 14 provinces namely Lang Son, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh and western districts of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces.

Previously in July, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed decisions on the establishment of four Regional Coordinating Councils (RCC) for Red River Delta Region, North Central and Central Coast Region, Southeast Region, and Central Highlands Region.

Coordinating Councils are interdisciplinary bodies responsible for assisting the Prime Minister in studying, directing and coordinating major tasks relating to intra-regional connectivity and sustainable development.

These Councils are in charged of coordinating activities involving formulation, adjustment, and organization of the implementation of the national master planning in the regions; putting forward mechanisms and policies for the development of the regions; and instructing localities to settle issues beyond the competence of the local administrations./.
