The above figure includes US$470.59 billion in export turnover, a year-on-year rise of 15.9 percent, while import value amounted to US$449.41 billion, an increase of 18 percent against the previous year, according to the Viet Nam Customs.

The customs agency said 2025 marks the 10th consecutive year Viet Nam reports trade surplus (approximately US$21.2 billion).

The FDI sector continued to play the key role in driving trade growth, with a new record of US$663 billion, accounting for 72 percent of Viet Nam's total trade and contributing 99 percent of the country's overall trade expansion. Meanwhile, domestic enterprises posted US$257 billion in trade value, largely unchanged from 2024.

Viet Nam remained among the world's 25 largest trading economies. According to World Trade Organization rankings, the country was placed 21st globally for exports and 20th for imports, up 11 and 12 positions, respectively, compared to a decade earlier.

Viet Nam Customs celebrates the milestone of trade turnover surpassing US$900 billion for the first time, Ha Noi, December 25, 2025

Director of the Viet Nam Customs Nguyen Van Tho said that the US$900 billion milestone reaffirmed Viet Nam's status as a highly open economy with deep global integration and strengthening competitiveness in international trade. He credited the achievement to the Party's strategic leadership, the Government's resolute management, and the joint efforts of ministries, sectors, and the business community.

Looking ahead, the customs sector will continue advancing administrative reform, modernization, and digital transformation, while enhancing risk control and anti-fraud systems, cutting inspection rates, and promoting corporate compliance. These efforts aim to further facilitate cross-border trade and bolster Viet Nam's role in global supply chains./.
