Specifically, the export turnover of goods in January 2026 totalled US$43.19 billion, down 2 percent against last December.

In the first month of 2026, there were 9 items with export turnover of over US$1 billion each, accounting for 72.4 percent of total export value.

The U.S. was Viet Nam's largest export market with US$13.9 billion. On the other hand, China was Viet Nam's largest import market with a turnover of US$19 billion.

Viet Nam suffered from a trade deficit of US$1.78 billion in January compared to US$3.17 billion of the same period last year.

This year marks the start of a new development phase for Viet Nam, with exports playing a critical role in driving growth and a shift toward a more efficient and sustainable growth model, said Nguyen Anh Son, Director-General of the Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Total export turnover is expected to reach about US$546-550 billion in 2026, equivalent to a growth rate of around 15-16 percent.

Last year, Viet Nam's export volume amounted to US$475.04 billion, marking a 17 percent year-on-year increase, according to official data./.
