Tourism sector serves for 3.5 million visitors on New Year holiday
VGP - Viet Nam’s tourism sector gained strong traction during the four-day New Year 2026 holiday running on January 1-4, welcoming an estimated 3.5 million visitors nationwide, as reported by the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).

The average hotel room occupancy rate reached 51 percent nationwide, with major destinations recording higher levels of around 65 percent.
Good weather across all regions was among key reasons behind the surge in travel, with top-visited locations including Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Mang Den, Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Vung Tau, and Mui Ne.
Ho Chi Minh City led the way, serving 1.24 million visitors—a 65 percent increase year on year. The Southern metropolis welcomed over 75,700 international arrivals (up 83 percent), achieved 75 percent room occupancy, and generated an estimated 2.63 trillion VND (≈ US$100 million) in tourism revenue.
Ninh Binh province came second with 723,000 visitors, including 178,000 foreign arrivals. It was followed by Quang Ninh province with 657,000 visitors, including 70,500 international arrivals; Lam Dong province with 650,000 visitors, and Ha Noi with 560,000 visitors.
China, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the U.S., were the largest tourist source markets. Travelers increasingly favored personalized and experience-driven trips over mass tours.
