Top Vietnamese legislator meets Uruguayan President
VGP - National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue paid a courtesy visit to Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou in Montevideo, Uruguay on April 27 as part of his official visit to the Latin American nation.
The Uruguayan President expected that the two nations will strengthen solidarity and promote high-level visit and people-to-people exchanges to further step up the friendship and cooperation ties between the two countries.
Uruguay advocates multilateralism and stands ready to expand relations with other countries beyond the region to diversify its economic, trade and investment ties, noted the President.
The Latin American nation is willing to play a bridging role for Viet Nam and other ASEAN Member States to get access to the South America and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), stated Luis Lacalle Pou.
The President hoped that Viet Nam will back Uruguay to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and organize World Cup 2030 (along with MERCOSUR members) and soon open a Vietnamese Embassy in Montevideo.
For his part, Vuong reiterated that Viet Nam always attaches importance to the friendship and cooperation with Uruguay.
He took the occasion to call for early launch of negotiations for a free trade agreement between Viet Nam and MERCOSURto further accelerate the bilateral trade.
Both sides vowed to maintain close coordination at international forums and multi-lateral organizations, particularly at the United Nations, the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).
They pledged to protect principles and values of multilateralism amidst the complex developments in the world./.
