Top Malaysian legislator starts official visit to Viet Nam
VGP - Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia Tan Sri Dato' Johari Bin Abdul and his spouse arrived in Ha Noi on Tuesday afternoon, starting a four-day official visit to Viet Nam.
The visit, made at the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, is expected to further deepen the Viet Nam–Malaysia strategic partnership and contribute to developing the parliamentary relations between the two countries in a substantive and effective fashion, bringing benefits to the people of both sides.
Over the past more than five decades, the relations between Viet Nam and Malaysia have developed strongly, particularly after the two sides lifted up their ties to a strategic partnership in August 2015, paving the way for extensive and comprehensive cooperation across the areas of politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, culture, tourism, defense, security, science technology, and sustainable development.
The two countries held various activities to celebrate their 50th founding anniversary of the diplomatic relations last year and planned to organize a series of events to mark the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership in 2025.
The two countries have recorded positive economic-trade cooperation achievements over the recent past, with Malaysia among top trading and investment partners of Viet Nam.
As of August, Malaysia was the second largest trading partner of Viet Nam in ASEAN and the 11th largest globally, while Viet Nam was the third biggest trading partner of the former in the regional bloc.
Two-way trade turnover reached US$10.64 billion in the first nine months of this year. The two countries are striving towards a trade revenue of US$18 billion by 2025 and US$25 billion by 2030.
As of September, Malaysia ranked 10th out of 148 countries and territories landing investment in Viet Nam, with total registered capital of nearly US$13 billion in 748 projects covering education and training, production, power distribution, gas, water, and manufacturing and processing industry./.
