National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue (R) shakes hands with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Ha Noi, January 23, 2024

Vuong sought Steinmeier’s support for stronger parliamentary cooperation and organization of activities to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year.

He thanked Germany for supporting the signing of the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and called on President Steinmeier to promote early ratification of the EU-Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

The top Vietnamese legislator treasured the German government's official development assistance (ODA) provided for Viet Nam over the past three decades, saying it has contributed significantly to the nation’s socio-economic development. He expected that Germany would provide more ODA for Viet Nam.

He suggested Germany back Viet Nam to get access to green financial sources to cope with climate change, develop a green and sustainable economy, and implement the COP 26 commitments towards net-zero emissions by 2050.

Vuong also proposed the guest leader support the establishment of the Germany-Viet Nam Parliamentary Friendship Group.

In reply, President Steinmeier underlined that economic cooperation is the backbone of the Viet Nam-Germany ties, which has been robustly developing with much potential.

Steinmeier said that Germany will simplify procedures for receiving specialised workers from Viet Nam, adding that his country is interested in technological cooperation with Viet Nam./.
