Top Lao leader starts State visit to Viet Nam
VGP - General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee (LPRP) and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and his spouse arrived in Ha Noi on Tuesday morning, beginning a four-day State visit to Viet Nam.
The visit is made at the invitation of Party General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse.
Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee and Chairman of the CPV Central Committee's Commission for External Relations, emphasized the visit shows the great importance that senior leaders of the two countries have attached to the Viet Nam-Laos relationship.
During the visit, the leaders of the two Parties and countries are expected to brief each other about recent developments in respective countries, chart major orientations to further advance the bilateral ties, and compare notes on regional and international issues of shared interests for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Regarding investment, Viet Nam has 256 investment projects in Laos with total investment capital of about US$5.5 billion, of which US$2.8 billion have been disbursed.
In the first seven months of 2024, Viet Nam poured US$36.7 million in investment capital in Laos, an increase of 39.5 percent over the same period in 2023.
The two-way trade turnover reached US$1.6 billion in 2023 and about US$1.1 billion in the first seven months this year, an increase of 16.7 percent year-on-year.
On education and training, Viet Nam planned to provide 1,120 scholarships to Laos and Laos would provide 60 scholarships to Viet Nam in 2024.
Around 14,050 Lao students studied at more than 170 educational institutions in Viet Nam between 2022 and 2023./.
