General To Lam, Minister of Public Security

The move came ahead of Presidential vote scheduled to take place on Wednesday when legislators will elect new President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.

On May 18, the Party Central Committee agreed to recommend General To Lam, a member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security, to the Presidential post.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan is the current acting President following the resignation of President Vo Van Thuong.

To Lam, aged 67, was appointed Deputy Minister of Public Security in August 2010 and he became Minister of Public Security in April 2016.

He is also the current Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-corruption led by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong./.
