To Lam elected new President of Viet Nam

VGP – Lawmakers on Wednesday elected To Lam as new President of Viet Nam, replacing his predecessor Vo Van Thuong who stepped down on May 2.

President of Viet Nam To Lam

On May 18, To Lam was nominated by the Party Central Committee as the candidate for the Presidential post.

President To Lam is one of the top four leaders in Viet Nam's political system. Other key leaders are Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue.

To Lam was born on July 10, 1957 in Nghia Tru commune, Van Gang district, Hung Yen province.

He studied at the People's Security Academy from October 1974 to July 1979 and started to work at the Ministry of Public Security since July 1979.

He was appointed Deputy Minister of Public Security in August 2010 and served as Minister of Public Security since April 2016 until May 22, 2024./.
