South Korea to double ODA for Viet Nam in 2024
VGP - South Korea will raise its official development assistance (ODA) for Viet Nam to over US$52 million in 2024, almost doubling the figure of 2023, according to President of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Chang Won-sam.
The President made the announcement while meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang in Ha Noi on March 19.
The Korean government and KOICA attach great importance to relations with Viet Nam, affirmed Chang who is on an working visit to Viet Nam.
Chang said his visit aims to evaluate the implementation of KOICA's projects in Viet Nam and discuss cooperation orientations to implement his country's ODA commitment for the 2024-2027 period.
In reply, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang appreciated South Korea's ODA for Viet Nam in favor of socio-economic development. He expressed his hope that South Korea will become Viet Nam's largest ODA provider in the near future.
Development cooperation is a focus of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, he said.
By the end of 2023, the Korean Government's non-refundable aid through KOICA to Viet Nam valued US$600 million.
Tran took the occasion to call upon KOICA in general and KOICA President in particular to continue their support for the development of the ties between the two countries in general and between Viet Nam and KOICA in particular.
Tran suggested the Korean side continue to increase the scale of non-refundable aid to Viet Nam, especially in innovation, digital transformation, and high-tech development./.
