Six airports temporarily closed due to typhoon Kalmaegi

VGP - The Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam has decided to temporarily closed six airports in the central region from Thursday afternoon due to the approaching typhoon Kalmaegi.

Specifically, Phu Cat Airport in Gia Lai province will suspend flight operations from 2 p.m. on November 6 to 1 a.m. November 7.

Tuy Hoa Airport in Dak Lak province will be closed from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on November 6.

Chu Lai Airport in Da Nang City will suspend operations from 7 p.m. on November 6 to 3 a.m. on November 7.

Pleiku Airport in Gia Lai province will be closed from 8 p.m. today to 4 a.m. on November 7.

Buon Ma Thuot Airport in Dak Lak province will suspend operations from 7 p.m. today to 4 a.m. tomorrow.

In Lam Dong province, Lien Khuong Airport will stop receiving aircraft from 7 p.m. today to midnight (12 a.m.) tomorrow.

As of 3 p.m. on November 6, Typhoon Kalmaegi was located 120 kilometers East of Gia Lai province' Quy Nhon Ward, packing maximum sustained winds of 167–183 kph and is expected to reach central Viet Nam by 10. p.m.

The typhoon is expected to trigger damaging winds in mainland areas from Thursday afternoon before making landfall, according to National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).

By 4 a.m. on Friday, the storm is forecast to reach the borderline betweeen Viet Nam and Laos, with winds weakening to 75–88 kph. Kalmaegi is then expected to rapidly weaken into a tropical depression and ultimately a low-pressure system over eastern Thailand./.
