Trade Counselor Cao Xuan Thang said that the approval marked a significant milestone in agricultural trade relations between the two countries and is expected to boost Viet Nam's export turnover for livestock products.
It also demonstrated the commitment between the two countries to promoting trade in animal-based food products, following the recent visits of Party General Secretary To Lam to Singapore and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to Viet Nam in March.
Specifically, the approved products included heat-processed poultry meat from CPV Food Co., Ltd. and Meatdeli Ha Noi Co., Ltd., as well as canned poultry eggs and meat (excluding beef) sterilized at high temperatures and pressures. These companies have successfully met the stringent standards set by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), covering food safety, traceability, and operational protocols.
As Singapore imports over 90 percent of its food, the value of poultry meat and egg imports in 2024 was SGD 3.87 billion.
Given the country's rigorous animal and plant health standards, the first three shipments from Viet Nam will undergo laboratory testing before being distributed to the local market.
The SFA also reported that Viet Nam must follow a pre-listing procedure if it hopes to expand the list of companies eligible to export canned and sterilized poultry products to Singapore.
Viet Nam's trade value with Singapore reached an all-time high last year, exceeding US$31.67 billion (approximately US$23.5 billion)./.
