Science and technology – "golden key" to achieve prosperity: General Secretary
VGP – Science and technology, innovation and digital transformation is the "golden key" to help Viet Nam overcome middle-income trap and achieve the goal of becoming a strong and prosperous country by 2045, said General Secretary To Lam.
To stressed the point in his remarks at the national conference held on Monday to popularize the contents of the Politburo's Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation.
The Party chief urged the Government to allocate at least 3 percent to science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation in 2025 and continue to increase funding to this area to around 2 percent of the nation's GDP over the following five years.
He called for adoption of favorable mechanisms and policies regarding naturalization, income, housing, and working environment to attract talents who are overseas Vietnamese and foreign experts, especially those working in the field of science and technology.
To also called for enhancing investment in technology infrastructure development, with a focus on clean energy to ensure sufficient energy for national development while promoting international cooperation in research and technology transfer in such fields like artificial intelligence, bio-technology, semiconductor, and renewable energy.
Also at the conference, the Central Steering Committee for Science and Technology Development, Innovation and Digital Transformation made debut.
The Steering Committee, led by General Secretary To Lam, shall be responsible before the Politburo and the Secretariat for its leadership in organizing the implementation of breakthrough solutions for the development of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation.
The Steering Committee shall have to put forward to the Politburo and the Secretariat for consideration and approval of mechanisms, policies, and breakthrough solutions for science-technology development, innovation, and digital transformation.
It will also lead and coordinate with party committees at all levels to guide, inspect, and supervise the implementation of relevant resolutions and regulations of the Party, and the State's laws; and review relevant legal mechanisms, policies, and administrative procedures, thus making recommendations for authorities for consideration and approval.
The Steering Committee will also direct party committees and organizations at all levels to inspect and take strict action against party organizations and members who delay, obstruct, or fail to implement the solutions and tasks assigned by authorized agencies in this work, or violate during the implementation process./.
