The April figure brought the total volume and value of rice exports in the first four months this year to 2.95 million tons and US$1.56 billion, respectively up 43.6 percent and 54.5 percent against the same period last year. This is the highest growth rate among key agricultural product groups.

The average export price of rice in the first 4 months was estimated at US$526 per tons, up 7.6 percent over the same period in 2022.

The Philippines was Viet Nam's largest rice importer as it purchased 893,300 tons of rice worth US$450.4 million in the first four months, up 32.9 percent in volume and 44.8 percent in value on year.

Other agricultural products recording higher export value than the same period last year include vegetables and fruits (up 19.4 percent), cashew nuts (3.4 percent) and coffee (2.5 percent).

Meanwhile, exports of other products experienced a downward trend including rubber (down 20 percent); tea (5.8 percent); pepper (10 percent) and cassava and cassava products (12 percent)./.
