Viet Nam National University, Ha Noi to rank among world’s top 200 universities by 2035

This is part of the Government's recently-approved project to develop the Viet Nam National University, Ha Noi, into one of Asia's leading higher education institutions.

During 2026-2030, the Government will step up investment to help the university make breakthroughs in education and training, science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

The university will play a core and pioneering role in leading the national higher education and research system. Priority will be given to investment resources and special mechanisms to build the university into an elite ecosystem for education, research and innovation, creating momentum and space for national development.

Resources will be prioritized for breakthrough development in key scientific and technological fields to address strategic challenges and meet the country's urgent needs, with the goal of bringing these fields to leading levels in the region and into the world's top 100.

Basic sciences will be considered as a foundation for scientific research, innovation, strategic technology development and talent training to serve national development.

Meanwhile, Hoa Lac campus of the VNU will be developed into a modern university and technology urban area and an open innovation center, serving as the nucleus of the capital's knowledge hub and a new growth pole based on knowledge, science and technology, innovation and high-quality human resources.

It will provide an open innovation space integrating education, research, technology development and innovation, with close links among universities, research institutes, businesses and other stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem.

By 2030, the university is expected to rank among the top 100 universities in Asia and the top 500 universities worldwide, with at least one field ranked among the world's top 100 according to reputable international rankings.

Recently, the VNU has been ranked 175th in Asia and 756th globally in the second edition of the 2026 Webometrics ranking of world universities.

The latest result marks the fifth consecutive year that VNU has remained among the top 700–800 worldwide, while maintaining its standing in the top 600 globally for impact, one of Webometrics' key performance indicators.

In the July 2026 edition, VNU retained its position as Viet Nam's highest-ranked university.

In June 24, Times Higher Education (THE) placed VNU in the 601–800 global band in its Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026.

Also in June, VNU achieved its highest-ever position in the QS World University Rankings 2027, rising to the 751–760 global band for the fourth straight year./.
