Viet Nam jumps eight notches in WEF’s Travel & Tourism Development Index

VGP - Viet Nam jumped eight ranks in the world travel and tourism development index despite two years of slowdown caused by the pandemic, according to the World Economic Forum’s latest study.

The country ranked 52th in the overall rankings this year compared to its 60th rank in 2019.

Viet Nam’s travel and tourism score grew by 4.1 percent, higher than the world’s average rate of 0.1 percent between 2019 and 2021. 

Viet Nam is one of three countries with the higest jumps in the study after Indonesia (up 12 places) and Saudi Arabia (up ten places).   

Japan topped the global charts, followed by the U.S., Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, the UK, Singapore and Italy in the top ten.

Titled ‘Travel & Tourism Development Index 2021: Rebuilding for a Sustainable and Resilient Future’, the study measured “the set of factors and policies that enable the sustainable and resilient development of the T&T sector, which in turn contributes to the development of a country”.

In this year’s index — which consists of five subindexes, 17 pillars and 112 individual indicators.

Viet Nam has opened its borders to tourists from March 15, 2022. So far, there is no longer requirements to show proof of vaccination, undergo any Covid-19 testing or complete any quarantine whatsoever. Visiting Viet Nam is now the same as what it was in pre-pandemic times./.
