The UN Secretary-General made the above statement during his meeting with State President Luong Cuong in New York, the U.S., on September 22.

Guterres expressed his desire for countries to strengthen cooperation in fulfilling the commitments they have made, adding that he is very much looking forward to his official visit to Viet Nam at the end of October 2025.

The UN official expressed his admiration for Viet Nam's socio-economic development achievements and its increasing international standing.

Guterres stated that Viet Nam is an excellent partner and is actively participating in and contributing positively across all priority areas of the UN, particularly in peacekeeping, sustainable development, climate change response, and just energy transition.

He expected that emerging economies, including Viet Nam will raise its voice, representation, and role in the global governance system.

Luong, for his part, affirmed that Viet Nam advocates multilateralism and the central role of the UN in global governance.

He voiced his support for the UN reform process, adding that countries need to take a leading role in this process and engage in thorough discussions to ensure comprehensive and transparent reform.

Viet Nam stands ready to welcome the UN to establish headquarters and offices in the Southeast Asian country, noted the State leader, adding that the country still needs support from the UN and international partners in its socio-economic development.

He called on the UN to enhance technical assistance, high-quality human resource training, and resource mobilization for developing countries, including Viet Nam, particularly in accessing concessional climate finance, next-generation clean technology, and strengthening response capacity.

Both sides vowed to further deepen Viet Nam–UN and ASEAN–UN relations in the coming period. They also highlighted the historic significance of singing the UN Convention on Cybercrime in Ha Noi in next October./.
