Top Vietnamese legislator meets Cambodian senior leaders

These meetings took place as part of the top Vietnamese legislator's official visit to Cambodia where he will also attend the 12th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and the 11th Plenary Session of International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP).

At these meetings, Tran emphasized that the Vietnamese Party and State always value and give high priority to consolidating the good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability with Cambodia for the benefit of both countries' people, and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

President Hun Sen welcomed Tran on his first official visit to Cambodia in his capacity as the top Vietnamese legislator and a representative of the Vietnamese Party and State at two major international conferences hosted by Cambodia, stressing that his trip holds significance to developing bilateral and multilateral ties, particularly between their legislatures.

Hun Sen suggested both sides strengthen their bond and cooperate even more closely across politics, economy, trade, national defense and security.

The host asked the two countries to continue to effectively follow existing cooperation mechanisms and maintaining strategic cooperation mechanisms to further solidify the friendship and cooperation among Cambodia, Laos, and Viet Nam through appropriate, flexible and more effective measures in the new period.

He underlined the need to effectively realize the signed agreements, combat hostile forces, transnational and cross-border crimes, safeguard national security, and prevent the spread of fake information and the use of social media to incite falsehoods that could harm the relationship between the two Parties and countries.

Tran, for his part, put forward several proposals to improve the efficiency of bilateral cooperation, including the maintenance of existing cooperation mechanisms between the two Parties and nations, particularly the high-level meeting mechanism between the two Parties, as well as meetings between leaders.

He reiterated Viet Nam's support for Cambodia's peaceful, secure, and stable development, seeing it as mutually beneficial for both nations.

During the meeting between the Vietnamese legislator and the Cambodian Prime Minister, Tran said that the Vietnamese NA is ready to work closely with Cambodia to encourage ministries, agencies, and localities involved to effectively implement signed agreements and treaties.

He pledged close coordination in organizing key events, including the 21st session of the Viet Nam-Cambodia joint committee on economic, cultural, scientific, and technical cooperation and the 13th Viet Nam-Cambodia conference on cooperation and development of border provinces, in Cambodia at an appropriate time.

He called on the sides to accelerate the demarcation and marker planting for the remaining 16 percent of the shared border, aiming to build a borderline of peace, friendship, and cooperation and long-term development between the two countries.

Tran went on stressing the importance of mutual support at multilateral forums and joint efforts in ASEAN and the United Nations (UN) in a bid to maintain ASEAN consensus on regional issues, particularly the East Sea.

Hun Manet, for his side, affirmed that Cambodia always pays attention to nurturing its friendship and neighborliness with Viet Nam. He said he supports joint work between the two countries' legislative bodies for the sake of their people.

He voices his support for stronger trilateral cooperation for economic growth among Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia, particularly via tourism and trade links.

Both leaders vowed to educate younger generations about the sacrifices and contributions of their predecessors in the countries' past struggle for national liberation, thereby contributing to fostering the Viet Nam-Cambodia traditional friendship and sound cooperation./.
