Top Vietnamese, Lao leaders hold talks in Ha Noi

To Lam underlined the significance of the top Lao leader's State visit to Viet Nam, which aims to strengthen the comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties and two countries.

Viet Nam will work with Laos to nourish the bilateral ties and deepen the solidarity between Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia towards a more intensive, practical and effective manner across all sectors, To Lam reassured.

Viet Nam always advocates the Party, State and people of Laos to build on the achievements and successfully realize its set goals, reiterated the Vietnamese General Secretary and President.

He reaffirmed Viet Nam's support for Laos to successfully assume the role of ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024.

Thongloun Sisoulith, for his part, extended his deep condolences over huge loss of life and property caused by superstorm Yagi, expressing his hope that under the leadership of the Party and State of Viet Nam, the country's localities will soon overcome difficulties and stabilize lives.

The two leaders expressed their satisfaction at new developments in the relationship between the two Parties and countries as well as achievements in Viet Nam-Laos comprehensive cooperation.

They vowed to increase mutual trust and understanding, maintain delegation exchanges at all levels, enhance information sharing on strategic issues and theoretical exchange; as well as promote communications about the tradition of the special relations between the two nations to their peoples, especially among youth.

Both leaders highlighted the need to step up cooperation in defense and security and effectively implement the protocols and plans on defense and security cooperation, contributing to maintaining political stability in each country.

The two nations should focus on strengthening efforts to make breakthroughs and improve effectiveness of cooperation in such areas as economics, culture, science and technology, they noted.

Both sides pledged to maximize their potential and strengths, enhance linkages between the two economies in terms of institutions, infrastructure, transportation, telecommunications, and tourism while boosting the economic links between Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia.

They vowed to protect each other's legitimate interests in accordance with international law, enhance sustainable use of Mekong River water resources, and continue mutual support at multilateral and regional forums./.
