General Secretary and President To Lam meets with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the 19th Francophonie Summit in Paris, France, October 5, 2024.

At his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the top Vietnamese leader affirmed Viet Nam attaches importance to the comprehensive partnership with Canada, and vowed to continue working with Canada to continue deepening the partnership across fields on the basis of mutual benefits and mutual trust, contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

To thanked Canada for providing humanitarian aid worth US$415,000 USD to help Viet Nam overcome the consequences of Typhoon Yagi.

He congratulated Canada on assuming the presidency of the Group of Seven (G7) and affirmed Viet Nam will continue working with Canada and other G7 countries to contribute to the group's cooperation agenda, including green growth and sustainable development.

To suggested the two countries foster the exchange of delegations at all levels, improve the effectiveness of bilateral dialogue mechanisms, and effectively utilize opportunities from the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

He also suggested the two sides strengthen cooperation in climate change adaptation, actively coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, particularly the United Nations and the International Organization of La Francophonie.

Trudeau, for his part, affirmed Canada attaches importance to the relations with Viet Nam, promising his country will continue support for Viet Nam's participation in the United Nations-led peacekeeping operations.

The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, including the East Sea issue. Both sides reiterated their support for the adherence to international law and settlement of disputes through peaceful measures in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

On the occasion, the top Vietnamese leader invited Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to visit Viet Nam at a convenient time. Trudeau accepted the invitation with pleasure and expressed his wish to visit Viet Nam soon.

The same day, General Secretary and President To Lam also met with General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Swiss President Viola Amherd, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, and President of the African Union (AU)./.
