General Secretary and President To Lam addresses the 19th Francophonie Summit's session on reformed multilateralism in Paris, France, October 5, 2024.

The top Vietnamese leader made the above statement at the 19th Francophonie Summit's session on reformed multilateralism in Paris, France on October 5.

He spoke highly of the contributions of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) and Francophone institutions in addressing the issues of shared concern of the international community, as well as the progresses of formulating frameworks and principles for emerging issues.

To uphold the role of multilateralism, To stressed the need for the Francophone community to align its agenda with the world's major transition processes, particularly digital transformation and green transition.

The Francophone community also needs to assist its members in improve their technological capacity, develop clean energy and successfully implement the sustainable development goals, To said.

Science and technology is the key for the Francophone community to create breakthroughs in the future, the top Vietnamese leader emphasized.

To underscored the importance of accelerating the reform of multilateral institutions, including the OIF, so that these institutions could swiftly respond to fast changes of the global situation and the Francophone space.

The Francophone community should also be reformed to focus more on the members' priorities, especially in terms of economic cooperation and coordination in realizing the documents adopted at the United Nations Summit of the Future.

Multilateralism could only be successful if the inclusive, comprehensive and people-centered approach is guaranteed, said To.

He suggested the Francophone community should continue people-to-people, cultural and educational exchanges through French language so as to maintain a beautiful language linking Francophone members./.
