The session is divided into two phases, with the first running from May 20 to June 8 and the second from June 17-28.
During the session, law-makers will elect a new Chairman of the National Assembly and a new President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
Earlier, the Party Central Committee unanimously agreed to nominate Tran Thanh Man, a Politburo member and Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly for the top legislator position.
The Party Central Committee also nominated General To Lam, a Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, for the position of the President.
Legislators will also delebrate on and approve 10 draft laws and three resolutions and give comments on 11 other bills and 16 socio-economic issues.
