Prime Minister arrives in Hiroshima for expanded G7 summit

Prime Minister Pham and his entourage were welcomed by Japanese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yamada Kenji, Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture Maeda Shunsuke, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu.

Within the framework of the summit, Pham is expected to attend three sessions on crisis management, joint efforts for a sustainable planet, and moving towards a world of peace, stability, and prosperity.

The Prime Minister will also participate in activities within the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) and meet with leaders of foreign countries and international organizations. 

In addition, the Vietnamese Government leader will hold talks with his Japanese counterpart Kishida Fumio to discuss bilateral ties, regional and international issues of common concern, attend and deliver a speech at a seminar with Japanese CEOs and come to visit the Vietnamese community in Japan. 

This is the third time Vietnamese leaders have attended the expanded G7 summit, following their attendance in 2016 in Japan and in 2018 in Canada, and the second time Viet Nam has been invited as a single nation, not in its capacity as a representative of an organization or a group of countries in the region.

As Viet Nam and Japan mark the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2023, Prime Minister Pham's arrival to Japan is expected to further strengthen mutual trust and drive bilateral relations forward, particularly cooperation in such key areas as economy, trade, new-generation ODA, high quality infrastructure, green transformation and energy transition, as well as promote coordination in regional and international issues of shared concern./.
