President receives credentials from newly-accredited ambassadors

VGP - President Vo Van Thuong on April 18 received credentials from newly-accredited ambassadors of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sri Lanka and Chile to Viet Nam.

Welcoming UAE Ambassador Bader Almatrooshi, the Vietnamese State leader suggested both countries should seek measures to soon bring two-way trade to US$10 billion, expressing his hope that the UAE would promote investment in Viet Nam, particularly in education, culture and tourism.

For his part, Bader Almatrooshi said that the UAE is currently Viet Nam's leading trade partner in the Middle East, with annual two-way trade of US$8 billion.

The UAE expects to expand collaboration with Viet Nam in various fields and both sides should step up high-level contacts to tighten political ties, especially on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1993-2023).

At his reception for Sri Lankan Ambassador Sajeewa Umanga Mendis, Vo affirmed that Viet Nam always attaches importance to developing its traditional friendship and multifaceted collaboration with Sri Lanka.

He emphasized the importance of promoting high-level contacts and people-to-people diplomacy to intensify friendship and mutual understanding; and stepping up the implementation of existing cooperation mechanisms.

The Sri Lankan diplomat vowed to promote bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, and share experience in poverty elevation, human development, education, health and culture.

Receiving Chilean Ambassador Sergio Narea Guzman, the Vietnamese leader suggested the two sides promote existing cooperation mechanisms, support each other at multilateral forums, and share views and visions on international and regional issues.

With a two-way trade of more than US$2 billion, there remains an ample room for bilateral cooperation, he noted.

The Chilean ambassador expressed his hope that the two nations should expand collaboration in all fields, especially politics, economics and people-to-people exchanges./.
