Accordingly, the Government chief tasked the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) to review and assess arising issues that may affect power supply and direct the Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) to craft scenarios to respond to power shortages. This task must be completed prior to June 10, 2023.

The MoIT is responsible for finalizing a directive of the Prime Minister on power savings in the 2023-2025 period and beyond and submit it to the Prime Minister for approval before June 8, 2023.

Within its competence, the ministry is in charge of resolving all bottlenecks for wind and solar power projects that have failed to meet feed-in-tariff deadline (December 31, 2020), by the end of this month.

The Prime Minister assigned the Minister of Industry and Trade to set up an inspection team on EVN's power supply from January 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023.

The EVN, the Viet Nam Oil and Gas Group (PVN), the Coal-Mineral Industry Group (TKV) and relevant ministries and agencies are ordered to ensure stable power supply especially in the North.

Production businesses and people are likely to suffer more power cuts though more scorching heat waves are predicted to hit the northern and central regions over the summer.

The northern region alone is anticipated to face a power shortage of 8,000MW in June, 3,000MW more than EVN’s forecast.

The National Load Dispatch Centre (A0) proposed increasing the maximum reduction in national power supply from 8,000MW to 15,000MW, including 8,100MW in the northern region, meaning more power cuts are expected over the coming days.

EVN has recommended that production lines, working offices, and residents pay attention to using electricity safely and economically, especially during peak hours at noon and in the evening./.
