During the three-day plenum, the committee will discuss documents to be submitted to the 14th National Party Congress, the preparations for Party congresses at all levels, moving towards the 14th National Party Congress, and other crucial issues.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Party chief said the 14th National Party Congress is schelded to take place in early 2026, marking a full five-year term during which the entire Party, people and army strive to implement the Resolutions of the 13th national Party Congress and the 10-year Socio-Economic Development Strategy 2021-2030.

The Economic-Social Subcommittee and the Party Charter Subcommittee have been efficient in preparing drafts of the Political Report, Socio-Economic Report, Party Building Report and Party Charter Implementation Report, seeking opinions from the Politburo for further refinement of the draft documents to present to the Party Central Committee at this plenum, he noted.

Nguyen urged members of the Party Central Committee to thoroughly study the draft documents and discuss and provide feedback on specific proposals outlined in the draft documents, particularly on major issues highlighted in the detailed draft Political Report.

Major socio-economic achievements in four months of 2024

Viet Nam's GDP was estimated to expand 5.66 percent in January-March period, the highest rate over the same period since 2020, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

As of April 20, foreign investment inflows into Viet Nam saw an increase of 4.5 percent to nearly US$$9.27 billion, according to the General Statistics Office.

Disbursement of foreign direct investment reached US$6.28 billion in January-April period, up 7.4 per cent year-on-year and marking the strongest growth since 2020.

Regarding outbound investment, Viet Nam invested US$98.3 million in 36 new projects aboard, marking a decline of 29.8 percent year on year.

Viet Nam's trade value with the rest of the world reached US$238.88 billion in the reviewed period, marking a 15.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Of the figure, export turnover hit US$123.64 billion, up 15 percent and import volume soared by 15.4 percent to US$115.24 billion.

Meanwhile, agro-forestry-aquatic product exports hit over US$19 billion, a year-on-year increase of nearly 24 percent.

Foreign arrivals to Viet Nam totaled 6.2 million people, up 68.3 percent from the same period last year and an increase of 3.9 percent compared to the same period in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

As many as 51,600 new enterprises with total registered capital of nearly US$20 billion were established.

Viet Nam's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) bounced back above the 50.0 no change mark in April, posting 50.3 from 49.9 in March, according to Standard & Poor's Global (S&P Global)./.
