Legislators approve Law to combat proliferation of weapons of mass destruction

The law, consisting of four chapters and 36 articles, shall take effect on July 1, 2027.

According to General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, preventing and combating the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction is an urgent task involving multiple sectors and fields, with broad international implications.

The adoption of the law will help establish a robust legal framework for proactively preventing, detecting at an early stage, and promptly addressing potential risks.

It will also contribute to protecting national independence, sovereignty, and security, as well as the lives and health of the people, while maintaining a peaceful and stable environment serving for the country's rapid and sustainable development.

The law reaffirms Viet Nam's consistent responsibility and commitment to implementing relevant international treaties and resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

It will help create a safe and transparent environment for investment and trade cooperation, as well as for science and technology, while enhancing Viet Nam's position and reputation in the international arena./.
