Gov’t approves new strategy for development of physical training and sports

VGP - The Government has approved a strategy for the development of Viet Nam's physical training and sports through 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Viet Nam targets to regularly rank in the top 2 at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), top 15 at Asian Games (ASIAD) and top 50 at the Olympic Games.

The objective of the strategy is to guarantee the sustainable and professional development of physical training and sports. 

All citizens are able to access to and benefit from physical training and sports services, voluntarily engaging in exercise to improve health, physical fitness, and quality of life.

The strategy also seeks to enhance the performance of Vietnamese sports to be on par with countries that have developed sports systems in Asia. Furthermore, it targets to expand the sports market, mobilize, and effectively utilize resources for the development of physical training and sports.

According to the strategy, Vietnamese sports aim to regularly rank in the top 2 at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), top 15 at Asian Games (ASIAD) and top 50 at the Olympic Games.

The Vietnamese men football team will strive to reach the Asian top 5 while the women's team targets to secure the Asian top 6 and qualify for future World Cup tournaments.

Viet Nam's national sports facility network will be enhance to host ASIAD, with at least 50 percent of centrally-run provinces and cities having three basic sports facilities that meet international standards.

The 32nd SEA Games, held in Cambodia in 2023, saw Viet Nam top the medal tally with 136 gold, 105 silver, and 114 bronze medals. This historic achievement marked the first time Viet Nam claimed the top position at a SEA Games held outside of Viet Nam.

Also in 2023, at the ASIAD 19, the country secured three gold medals, five silver medals, and 19 bronze medals, ranking 21st overall./.
