Germany pledges to support Viet Nam to fulfill her commitments at COP 26

The State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Jochen Flasbarth, made the above statement at his meeting with Vietnamese Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh in Ha Noi on September 28.

Currently, Germany is Viet Nam's largest trading partner in Europe, while Viet Nam is Germany's largest trading partner in Southeast Asia and the sixth in Asia.

Regarding investment, there are currently over 300 German enterprises doing business effectively in Viet Nam, including many business giants such as Siemens, Mercedez, Adidas, Bosch, and Braun. Germany's total registered FDI as of January 2022 reached US$2.3 billion with more than 417 valid projects.

The Standing Deputy Prime Minister suggested that Germany soon ratify the Investment Protection Agreement between the European Union and the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (EVIPA) to promote investment between Germany and Viet Nam further and support the European Commission's early consideration of removing the "yellow card" for Vietnamese seafood exports.

In addition to Viet Nam's extraordinary efforts, the Standing Deputy Prime Minister said the international community's cooperation was needed to support Viet Nam in implementing its commitments at COP26.

The permanent Deputy Prime Minister wished that as the Chairman of the G7 Group, Germany would support Viet Nam to access green finance from the G7, international financial institutions and large private corporations for climate change response activities.

State Secretary Jochen Flasbarth expressed his impression of Viet Nam's socio-economic development achievements both in the short and long term, from which most people benefit. 

He congratulated Viet Nam on good management of the Covid-19 pandemic and maintaining positive growth rate./.
