Prime Minister presides over Gov’t regular meeting

The Cabinet discussed the implementation of the socio-economic development and recovery program; allocation and disbursement of public investment capital; and the realization of three national target programs.

Besides, the outcomes of the implementation of the planning work in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Planning and the working sessions between Government members and localities on production, public investment, infrastructure construction, imports and exports were also presented at the meeting.

From the beginning of this year to may May 20, Viet Nam attracted US$10.86 billion in foreign direct investment, according to official statistical data.

Export turnover was estimated at US$136.17 billion, down 11.6 percent against the same period last year while import turnover was estimated at US$126.37 billion, down 17.9 percent against the same period last year.

Foreign arrivals to Viet Nam reached 916,300 in May, bringing the total number to nearly 4.6 million in the first five months of 2023, a year-on-year increase of 12.6 times, equivalent to 63 percent of the same period in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.

Remarkably, total retail sales of consumer goods and services in the first five months of this year was estimated at VND2.52 quadrillion (US$107.2 billion), a year-on-year rise of 12.6 per cent, the highest recorded in the same period since 2015./.
