Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets Philippine President, Thai counterpart in Malaysia

Pham congratulated the Philippines on assume the ASEAN Chairmanship 2026 and its socio-economic development achievements, particularly in growth, inflation control and job creation.

President Marcos affirmed Viet Nam is one of the Philippines' major parter in Southeast Asia, expressing his wish that the two countries will continue close coordination to boost the strategic partnership across all fields, from politics, economy to defense-security and multilateral cooperation, towards the 50th founding anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic relations.

The two leaders agreed to coordinate closely in formulating an action program to implement the Viet Nam-Philippines strategic partnership in the new period.

Pham suggested both sides increase contacts and exchange of delegations; effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms; expand cooperation in potential areas such as digital transformation, processing technology, high-tech agriculture, infrastructure; sign a long-term rice trade agreement.

Marcos welcomed Viet Nam's efforts in combating illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing and agreed to help Viet Nam enhance IUU prevention capacity.

The two leaders also agreed to reinforce cooperation; maintain ASEAN solidarity and unity; promote ASEAN centrality in regional and international issues, including management and sustainable use of the Mekong water resources; safeguard peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea on the basis of international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; and fully and effectively abide by the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and soon conclude a Code of Conduct in the East Sea.

The same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also met with Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Anutin thanked the Vietnamese counterpart for making a phone call to congratulate him upon his election as the Prime Minister of Thailand.

He affirmed Viet Nam is one of Thailand's major partners in Southeast Asia, expressing his wish to collaborate with Viet Nam to reinforce comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

The two Prime Ministers expressed their pleausure at the fine development of the Viet Nam-Thailand relations and agreed to work closely together to formulate an action program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in May 2025.

Pham extended his deepest condolences to Thailand over the death of Queen Mother Sirikit. He said that Thailand remains Viet Nam's biggest trading partner and the second largest investor in ASEAN, suggesting both sides double efforts to realize the trade goal of US$25 billion in a balanced manner.

The two leaders spoke highly of the importance of the "Three Connections" strategy and agreed to soon set up a joint working group and develop an action program to realize this strategy.

Both sides also agreed to foster education and training cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, local-to-local linkages while promoting cultural exchange programs to mark the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.
