Prime Minister meets top Romanian legislators in Bucharest
VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had separate meetings with President of the Senate of Romania Nicolae Ciuca and President of the Chamber of Deputies Alfred Simonis in Bucharest, on January 22 as part of his three-day official visit to Romania.
At the meeting with the President of the Senate of Romania, Pham said that his visit aims to promote the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two nations across all sectors.
He emphasized that the two countries should maintain all-level delegation exchanges, especially high-level contacts via Party, State and parliament channels to increase political trust and mutual understanding.
Pham hailed positive achievements brought by the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) over the last three years, expressing thanks to the Parliament of Romania for being one of the first EU member parliaments ratifying the EU-Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).
Nicolae Ciuca, for his part, expressed his satisfaction on positive developments in the bilateral ties, especially in fields of politics, economy, education-training, culture and tourism.
The legislator pledged to advocate the relations between Viet Nam and the EU, and to push for early ratification of the EVIPA by the parliaments of the remaining EU member countries.
Both sides vowed to bolster collaboration between the two legislative bodies and to continue close coordination and mutual support at inter-parliamentary forums.
Both sides agreed to continue stepping up investment and trade ties, improve the effectiveness of cooperation in traditional areas such as education-training, agriculture, culture, and labor and expand cooperation in potential areas such as information technology, innovation, science and technology.
During his meeting with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Pham reiterated that Viet Nam always treasures and expects to strengthen relations with its traditional partners in the Central and Eastern Europe, including Romania, its top priority partner.
Viet Nam expects to strengthen ties and share experience in the field of legislation and supreme supervision, suggesting both sides' parliaments advocate cooperative agreements reached between the two Governments, especially in economics, trade, and investment, he noted.
He called on the Romanian Chamber of Deputies to urged other EU members' parliaments to approve the EVIPA and the European Commission (EC) to early remove the "yellow card" warning on Vietnamese seafoods.
For his part, Alfred Simonis, highly valued the increasing role and status of Viet Nam, affirming that Romania always places importance on and hopes to foster the relationship with Viet Nam, a traditional friendship partner of Romania in Southeast Asia.
Both sides should promote the efficiency of the inter-governmental mechanism on economic cooperation, continue effective implementation of the EVFTA, he noted.
The pair pledged to boost collaboration in traditional areas and expand to other potential fronts such as IT, green finance and innovation.
After these meetings, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his entourage left Bucharest for Ha Noi, concluding his tour to Europe to attend the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF-54) in Davos, Switzerland and official visits to Hungary and Romania./.
