Prime Minister leaves Ha Noi for expanded G7 Summit in Japan
VGP - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh left Ha Noi on May 19 for Japan where he will attend the expanded G7 summit and pay a working visit to the Northeast Asian country.
The trip is made at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.
The Government chief is accompanied by Minister-Chairman of the Office of the Government Tran Van Son, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang, Chairman of the Commission for the Management of State Capital Nguyen Hoang Anh, Deputy Minister of National Defense Le Huy Vinh, Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh and Vietnamese Ambassador in Japan Pham Quang Hieu.
This is the third time Vietnamese leaders have attended the summit, following their attendance in 2016 in Japan and in 2018 in Canada, and the second time Viet Nam has been invited as a single nation, not in its capacity as a representative of an organization or a group of countries in the region.
Pham's tour to Japan takes place on the occasion of the 50th founding anniversary of Viet Nam-Japan diplomatic relations (1973-2023).
Japan's invitation to Viet Nam to attend the summit indicates the thriving Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia between the two countries.
The invitation reflects the international community’s appreciation of Viet Nam’s active and proactive international integration, as well as its efforts and constructive, responsible contributions to common international issues such as sustainable development, climate change response, food security and energy security.
It also demonstrates the importance Japan attaches to Viet Nam’s role and position in the region, as well as Japan’s hope for further coordination and support from Viet Nam at multilateral forums, and the Southeast Asian nation’s contributions to settling common international and regional issues.
The working visit is expected to cement and deepen the bilateral ties, promote linkages in key areas including economics, trade, investment, new ODA generations, high-quality infrastructure, green transition, coordination in regional and international issues of common concerns./.
