Prime Minister hosts Chinese Ambassador ahead of Lunar New Year

During the meeting, the Prime Minister extended his warm greetings and best New Year wishes to General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of China Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Wang Huning, and other senior Chinese leaders.

Prime Minister Chinh briefed the Ambassador on key outcomes of the 14th National Party Congress, highlighting its strong resolve, new orientations, major goals and breakthrough solutions aimed at transforming Viet Nam into a socialist-oriented developed country. He also acknowledged the positive contributions made by Ambassador He and the Chinese Embassy to the advancement of the bilateral ties.

Pham called for continued efforts to strengthen mutual understanding and political trust through effective high-level exchanges and visits, optimize cooperation mechanisms, expand collaboration among ministries, sectors and localities, robustly implement the defence–security cooperation pillar, and improve the effectiveness of intergovernmental working mechanisms in key areas.

He suggested China facilitate market access for qualified Vietnamese agricultural, aquatic and livestock products, and support the transit of Vietnamese goods through China to third markets. He also suggested both countries enhance cooperation in energy, development of smart border gates and cross-border economic zones in border localities, and upgrade science and technology cooperation linked with human resources training, technology transfer and experience sharing in advanced and emerging fields.

The Prime Minister underscored the need for stronger local-level cooperation, particularly among border localities, as well as stronger collaboration in culture, education, tourism and healthcare, while stepping up communications on Viet Nam–China friendship to strengthen the social foundation of bilateral relations.

Regarding maritime issue, Prime Minister Pham stressed the importance of effectively and seriously implementing high-level common perceptions on controlling and properly handling differences at sea, on the basis of respecting each other’s lawful and legitimate rights and interests, and resolving disputes through peaceful means in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

In response, Ambassador He Wei affirmed China’s readiness to accelerate railway cooperation and strategic transport connectivity, expand cooperation in emerging areas such as high technology, the digital economy and the green economy, adhere to high-level common understandings, jointly manage and handle differences, and work together to maintain a peaceful, stable and favorable environment for the development of both countries.

Both sides noted that the relations between Viet Nam and China in recent years have seen positive and substantive progress in line with the “six major orientations,” marked by closer high-level strategic exchanges, growing political trust, and increasingly comprehensive and diversified cooperation mechanisms. Economic cooperation has recorded new breakthroughs, with bilateral trade reaching a record level in 2025 and the accelerated implementation of three standard-gauge railway lines connecting the two countries. Tourism has rebounded strongly, with China once again becoming Viet Nam’s largest source market, alongside vibrant local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges./.
