Prime Minister calls for more effective implementation of agreements against criminal fugitives

The Prime Minister emphasized that ASEAN has always been a strategic priority in Viet Nam's foreign policy, adding that the bloc plays a critically important and strategic role in maintaining peace, stability and development in the region.
Le also called for faster ratification of the ASEAN Treaty on Extradition, signed in the Philippines in November 2025, to give member states a stronger legal footing against crime, and for effective enforcement of other relevant international treaties and agreements.
He urged the bloc to effectively implement relevant international treaties and agreements related to the fight against wanted fugitives; establish formal cooperation mechanisms among ASEAN member states, including hotlines and the organization of annual conferences.
The Vietnamese Government leader called for improving the effectiveness of investigating cases involving Vietnamese wanted persons hiding abroad, making use of INTERPOL and ASEANAPOL databases, as well as outcomes of international campaigns and conferences to analyze information on emerging types of crime and criminal methods.
It is necessary to promote exchanges of delegations at various levels, particularly at the expert level, and step up collaboration in organizing conferences and thematic seminars to exchange information and share practical experience in preventing and combating wanted fugitives, he noted.
The Prime Minister also called for stronger international cooperation in specialized training and capacity building to improve professional expertise, legal knowledge and foreign-language skills among officials engaged in combating transnational and foreign-related crime.
Speaking on behalf of the heads of delegation, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha said the participating countries had agreed on strategic orientations to promote regional cooperation in combating wanted fugitives.
He affirmed Cambodia's commitment to actively and effectively combating transnational crime, particularly online scam-related crime and crime involving wanted fugitives./.
