The summit was co-chaired by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, with the participation of many heads of State and Government of UN member countries, and representatives of international organizations.

Delegates affirmed that green and low-carbon transition is a global trend, calling on developed countries to take the lead in cutting emissions and step up financial and technical support for developing countries.

Addressing the summit, the Vietnamese President emphasized that as one of the countries most severely affected by climate change, Viet Nam is fully aware of and firmly committed to the goal of sustainable development, harmonizing economic growth with environmental protection and climate change response.

The country is continuously improving its institutions and policies, creating a comprehensive legal framework to promote green and just transition, climate adaptation, resolutely implementing its committed targets, and enhancing capacity and resilience for vulnerable regions and communities, emphasized Luong.

He urged countries to fully and promptly implement their climate finance commitments, particularly resources for a just transition while ensuring social security, creating jobs, and supporting workers and vulnerable communities.

To help developing countries narrow the gap, the Vietnamese State President called on the international community to vigorously and substantively promote the transfer of advanced, clean, and efficient technologies to serve green and circular economic development.

The UN should continue to uphold its central role in fostering solidarity, cooperation, and trust-building, ensuring fairness and justice and realizing UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement through the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, suggested the Vietnamese leader.

Developed countries should pioneer in implementing strong commitments on emission reduction, financial and technological contributions, as well as initiating new initiatives, solutions, and dialogues and encouraging nations, businesses, social organizations, and people to take part in the process, said Luong./.
